YOUR DOG IS LOST.
Do the useful things first. Then keep doing them. A frightened dog may hide, move or avoid people who are trying to help.
DO THIS NOW.
1. Search Close First
Check hiding places, porches, sheds, garages, culverts and familiar routes. Ask neighbors to physically check enclosed spaces.
2. Report the Dog
Catawba County Animal Services provides a lost/found pet reporting process. Call the shelter and submit current information.
REPORT LOST / FOUND3. Notify the Chip Company
Mark the microchip record as lost and verify your phone number. A chip only works if somebody can reach you.
4. Use One Good Photo
Clear face and body. Avoid a collage of nine tiny photos. Put the location, date, phone number and important behavior note right on the image.
5. Tell Vets & Shelters
Call nearby veterinary practices and shelters. Check shelter listings repeatedly instead of assuming one report covers everything forever.
6. Keep Looking
Dogs can move after the first search. Revisit the same places at quieter times, especially early morning and evening.
